Volunteer with Junior Achievement

Volunteers embody the heart of Junior Achievement. Taking a message of opportunity and boundless potential to a classroom in your community, no matter what your profession, is Junior Achievement in action.

We serve ten counties in southeast Michigan! Some current opportunities are below.

JA in Genesee and Shiawassee Counties - we are expanding our program offerings! If you would like to volunteer at our Finance Park in Flint or bring programming to the schools in the community, please contact Meghan Cuneo mcuneo@jamichigan.org.

JA Finance Park--JA Finance Park is a capstone experience for students who complete a 25-hour financial literacy program in the classroom. Each student uses a tablet with an individual life scenario.  Volunteers will help guide the students as they learn about the “cost of living”, visit on-site storefronts and ultimately create a budget that aligns with the income provided on their tablets.  15-20 volunteers are often needed.  Location: Detroit, Timing: 8:30am – 1:30pm (including training). For current volunteer opportunities in Finance Park click here.

JA Journey 2 Jobs--Provides students hands-on, real-world exposure to the array of possibilities within specific industries.  These events will have 15-30 different companies highlighting themselves and showcasing the wide variety of careers within each organization.  Volunteers will guide small groups of students from station to station for a set amount of time, as well as answer and encourage their questions.  15+ volunteers are needed, can be from multiple companies.  Location: Pontiac, Timing: 8:30 am – 1:30 pm. Dates for 2018-2019: December 6, January 24, February 7, March 14, April 18, & May 2.  Contact Linda Morrell lmorrell@jamichigan.org to volunteer.

JA STEMworks!--This program is designed to introduce and excite middle and high school students to a variety of STEM related careers.  Volunteers will guide students through a variety of STEM activities, relating them to real life careers.  Student and volunteer teams will ultimately build and race model cars using the knowledge gained. Materials will be provided to volunteers ahead of time.  15 – 20 volunteers who currently work in STEM careers are needed.  Location: Detroit, Timing: 8:30am – 1:30pm (including training). Contact Linda Morrell at lmorrell@jamichigan.org for dates.

JA in a Day!--Volunteers will have the opportunity to bring JA programs into the classroom.  The JA programs team will provide kits and training to all volunteers prior to their day in the classroom and the classrooms will have two volunteers each (minimum).   This is a great way for companies/teams/groups to come in, spend the day and make a difference together.  Depending on the number of volunteers, groups can provide programs to a grade, multiple grades or even an entire school!!  2 – 40 volunteers are needed. Location: Various, Timing:  8:30am – 2:00pm.  Contact Tarek Lester at: tlester@jamichigan.org.

JA Company Program--Students learn about entrepreneurism and eventually start their own business. Volunteers can fill a variety of needs for this program please contact sarabi@jamichigan.org for more details.
